Fashion Tips For Short Women
If you’re conscious about your height, here are 10 useful style tips designed to help you appear a bit taller.
Establish a slim silhouette. Try wearing one or two dark colors, like black or navy blue, with one bright accent. For instance, for work, you could wear a pencil skirt with a jacket in the same color with a bold orange, lime green or aqua blouse underneath.
Avoid horizontal stripes. Horizontal stripes make you look wider, hence shorter. Stick to vertical pin stripes in jackets and pants.
Avoid loose clothing. Flaired pants or denim will make you appear more square, as will non-form-fitting tops. Keep fabrics close to your body to help you appear to take up less room.
Straight pants without cuffs. Remember that cuffs appear to divide the length of your legs and make them appear shorter.
Empire waist. Wear a belt to tighten and gather the fabric just below your bust, thus elongating your frame and connecting your torso with your legs in a flattering way.
Heels. While you probably want to avoid flats, wear medium sized heels. Wearing four inch heels can draw too much attention to your height.
Knee-length skirts. Anything that ends mid calf will appear to cut your legs in half and make you look even shorter. If you must have a longer skirt, find one that extends to the floor. Otherwise, keep it knee-length for the most flattering look.
Vertical details around your waist. Buttons laid out vertically on your top or a long piece of fashion jewelry that dangles almost to your belly button can serve to elongate your torso.
V-neck shirts. This style of neckline has a strong vertical element, again working to add height to your frame. V-neck tops look elegant with a variety of fashion jewelry.
Single-breasted jackets.This style of formal wear is more flattering on short women than double-breasted jackets because there is less fabric to weigh you down.
