How much do you think this shirt autographed by Cobi Jones and Joe Cannon is worth?
He doesn’t plan on selling it, but my brother has a Cobi Jones t-shirt (given out on Cobi’s last regular season game). It was signed by Cobi himself (a Galaxy and US soccer legend) at a charity game in which he scored his last goal on the Los Angeles Galaxy. It is also signed by former Galaxy goalkeeper Joe Cannon, whose only season on LA was in 2007. He was a key player on the Galaxy that year, making many amazing saves, and he became a fan-favorite. So how much do you think it’s worth?
As an American soccer fan, I find it amusing we idolize players who have a funky look or character, but forget to promote those who can actually play. Cobi Jones is a classic example…running around with his dreads and diminutive size, people recognized him…much like they recognized Alexi Lalas for his orange fu man chu….Yet, neither were ever world class players.
Sad to say, in America, we love and idolize people for the wrong reasons and accomplishments (movie stars, recognizable athletes, etc…). Hence, some shallow person will place a nice value on a Cobi Jones autographed jersey. Whereas, another former US National, Tab Ramos, wouldn’t get half the love as he’s not nearly as “recognizable” despite his elite skills on the pitch.
